Description

Not sure how I wanted the skirts for my 🥰 BoxTurtle, whether to go the true mesh way or rather opt for a mesh-like look only but have them printed solid 🤔, I played around in CAD to have the mesh as a separate part and also to do some optimizations, added support for Lane Control and customized the Option Plate Rear Skirt.

If you build the BoxTurtle Enclosure:

It comes with a different front skirt but there is the TurtleFence for Enclosure which provide the front parts you need.

Leave a ❤ Like if you actually like and use this model. It helps to get some Prusameters for the filament that is needed for all the test prints while creating models to share with you!

Details and Options

True Mesh vs. Solid Mesh

You can choose between two mesh options:

  • The standard Mesh, nothing more to say about it, allows you some insights into the internals
  • … and a Solid Mesh option that gives you the look and feel of the mesh but still encloses the everything.

Whatever you choose, the skirt part is the same so you can play around and choose what you like at any time.

Mono or Multi-Part

The front and rear skirts as well as all the inserts are provided as mono and multi-part variant. If your build plate allows for it, go with the mono version.

I did not create a multi-part version for the sides as I assume most people will mange to print it the mono way. But if you require the multi-part variant, just drop me a note.

Lane Control Front Skirt Options

Standard

Pre-Cut

Lane Control Ready

To be prepared for Lane Controls I created some variants of the front skirt inserts:

  • Standard: If you do not want Lane Controls
  • Lane Control Pre-Cut: Can be used as standard (without Lane Controls) but also allow you to easily make the cuts to add Lane Controls at any time later.
  • Lane Control Ready: With cut-outs where the Lane Controls will sit

Option Plates Rear Skirt

Really liked the idea of the Option Plates Rear Skirt so I just did a bit of cosmetics to the fan part:

  • A rectangular mesh insert if you want to install a fan
  • … and a "Turtle Plate" in case you don't

But the main idea for the Option Plate (and the Fan Insert): Customize it to your needs (and check on Discord what is already available).

Printing and Assembly

Printing: Only the rear skirt requires some support where the Options Plate and the Fan Insert sits (I am sure you will manage this in your slicer ;-) ). Otherwise nothing special, just print it like all the other parts for your BoxTurtle.

Multi-Part Skirts: I wanted the multi-part skirts to not have any gaps after assembly. So I designed the inserts to connect two skirt parts without any spacing between the skirt parts. On the downside, you might need to sand it down just a tiny bit on the tiny interfaces between the two skirts parts to account for elephant foot, over-extrusion, ….. but should be done in a second (and the interface won't be visible after assembly).

Assembly: The inserts will clip into the skirt and the friction fit should keep them securely in place. Optionally you can apply a bit of super glue and they will bond to the skirt forever.

BOM: The Options Plate / Fan Insert require the standard M3 Voron spec heat set inserts and some M3 screws.
