Description

I've never liked taking my flights off my darts, as detaching and reattaching them increases the risk of damage. But all forms of storage supplied at purchase involve jamming them into a 3-dart holder whose holes are too close together so the flights get bent, or a case that also bends them even if it allows you to close the lid on mounted flights at all.

So for the last 35 years my darts have cluttered up a shelf, and even then they're at risk of damage from other items or even just gravity squishing the flights flat!!!

Enter 3D printing age. A few minutes with Fusion360 and now I've got 3-dart holders with the holes far enough apart that the flights don't get bent, and a stand in which I can place three holders. Yay! Tidy AND preserve the flights!

I had to mess around with the holes quite a lot before I got them about right. The original plan was tapering holes so they would pinch the dart points, but that didn't work out so well and I ended up tweaking the hole sizes and leaving them untapered for most of the length, and that seemed to work better but I still haven't tuned it perfectly. And then I realised that one of my sets has fractionally fatter points and I gave up basically, accepting a reasonably snug fit rather than a tight grip. I've included the F3D in case anyone wants to have a go at their own alterations. You can always attack the finished result with a drill to make the holes a bit bigger anyway!

You can also edit the stand sketch and add more slots sideways or lengthways as you wish, although sorry it's not parametric so you'll have to do some editing. Or just make more than one and simply glue them together!

For my particular version, just print up to 3 holders and one stand.

I used 1.2mm layers for the holders to preserve the accuracy of the holes as much as possible, the stand is fine at 0.4mm layers.

PLA+ is fine, no supports or brim/skirt needed, infill minimal.

Print as fast as you like :o)
