Description

Honey Dipper* - A Wave Overhangs Test Print

*Not actually intended to be dipped in honey.

This is a test print I made to try the Wave Overhangs fork of Orca Slicer. When sliced correctly, the model should print without supports.

Print Parameters:

(These are the settings I used. They are not fully dialed in, so please experiment!)

  • Printer: Prusa Core One

  • Filament: Prusa Generic PLA

    • PLA is the only recommended filament at this time.

  • Nozzle: 0.4 mm

  • Layer height/profile: 0.2 mm STRUCTURAL

  • Infill: 15% TPMS-D

    • Not required; this is just what I used.

  • Wave Overhangs: ON

  • Wave Overhangs Algorithm: Andersons

  • Wave Overhangs Pattern: Monotonic

    • I found that nozzle travel during the wave process was causing print issues. Monotonic kept the nozzle moving in a continuous circular path, which worked better for this model.

Important Note:

This is not fully dialed in! Read the Wave Overhangs documentation, experiment with your settings, and expect some trial and error.

My print looks pretty good at the front, but the largest circle sagged in the back near the seam. There is probably a way to improve this. It would be interesting to see a quasi-vase-mode version of the algorithm that could print circular overhangs without creating a seam.

Included Files:

In addition to the STEP, STL, and 3MF files, I have also attached the G-code for my print. The G-code is intended for a Prusa Core One and uses about 10 g of PLA, in case you happen to have the same printer and want to go "Ooooo....".

I have also included a dimensioned print showing the more critical measurements, so you can better judge the limitations of the print.

Good luck! Have fun!
