Description
Overview
Reloading 9mm ammunition often requires quick, repetitive, and consistent powder charges. However, metering flake powders (poudres en paillettes) can be challenging due to their tendency to bridge, bind, or meter inconsistently in standard adjustable volumetric throwers. This 3D-printable manual powder measure is specifically calibrated by volume to throw approximately 5 grains of typical pistol flake powder. It serves as a dedicated, fixed-volume scoop/dispenser for high-volume 9mm reloaders who want a reliable, repeatable charge without constantly adjusting their equipment.
Why use this ?
-
Optimized for Flake Powder: The internal cavity is designed with straight, smooth walls to prevent flake stacking and ensure the powder settles consistently every time.
-
Speed and Consistency: By using a fixed-volume design, you eliminate the mechanical variations of moving parts. Simply scoop, level, and pour.
-
Dedicated 9mm Tool: Calibrated specifically around the standard ~5-grain charge used for popular 9mm target loads, making it a perfect dedicated bench tool.
Technical Specifications & Printing
Accuracy is paramount for this print. The internal geometry must be flawlessly smooth to ensure consistent volumes.
-
Material: PLA, PETG, or ABS. (Note: Using an anti-static/carbon-infused filament is highly recommended to prevent powder flakes from clinging to the walls).
-
Layer Height: 0.12mm or lower. A very fine resolution is critical. Thick layer lines will trap powder flakes and alter your charge weight.
-
Walls/Perimeters: 3 to 4 wall loops for structural rigidity.
-
Infill: 20% to 30%.
-
Dimensional Accuracy: Ensure your printer's flow rate is perfectly calibrated. Over-extrusion will shrink the internal volume, resulting in a lighter powder charge.
How to Use
-
Dip the measure into your powder hopper or bowl, allowing the powder to flow naturally into the cavity without packing it down.
-
Use a straight edge (like a business card or plastic straightedge) to gently level off the excess powder at the top.
-
Pour the charge into your funnel or case.
-
SAFETY WARNING: Powder densities vary greatly between brands and lots (e.g., Vectan vs. Vihtavuori). Always verify the thrown weight with a calibrated precision scale before loading live ammunition.
