Description

This 3D-printed training rapier is the culmination of countless hours spent printing and testing under both light and heavy combat conditions. It’s specially crafted for Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA) clubs looking to incorporate more readily available epee blades into their training.

Required:

  • PLA+ or better
  • 2 x Metal Rods 6mm in diameter - I used 140mm long because I like long quillions

Compatibility and Features:

  • Blade Compatibility: Primarily designed to accommodate epee blades, the gear also fits the HFA Musketeer blade seamlessly, offering versatile usage options for different training scenarios.
  • Quillons: Features steel rod quillons with a diameter of 6mm, allowing for customization in length to suit individual preferences and requirements.  If it isn't already obvious I love long quillions! Quillon tips are also provided.
  • Pommel Compatibility: Optimized for 6M pommels, this gear achieves the best performance with a 40mm ball pommel, although these are notably higher in cost.
  • Protective Cup: Includes a 3D-printed cup that not only prevents an IKEA bowl from deforming—despite its steel construction being relatively soft—but also maintains sufficient strength on its own to withstand rigorous use.

Printing Tips:

  • Supports: Ensure to use supports everywhere to maintain structural integrity.
  • Density: Keep the infill density between 60-100% to balance strength and material usage.
  • Fitting: The connections are designed to be tight; you may need to slightly modify the area where the handle meets the hilt to guarantee a snug and secure fit.

Ideal Usage: This gear is ideal for HEMA clubs that prefer a practical yet high-quality solution for training with various blades. Its robust design ensures durability and reliability in training, making it an indispensable part of any practitioner’s equipment.

Although it will be most used with epee blades, the depicted photos actually use the HFA musketeer long
