Description
Important!
Rules and regulations regarding electrical installations and devices vary significantly between countries, please make sure that you comply with any local regulations that may be relevant.
The design is intended for use with a cable that plug into a socket, to be mounted under for example a desk and with devices drawing relatively low power. It is not intended for permanent installation as part of the electrical system in a house or similar or for hooking up the vacuum cleaner and hauling it around.
Always disconnect from power when adding/removing wires.
Familiarize yourself with the specifications provided by WAGO, such as using the proper strip length of 11mm (see inside of lid for strip length indicator), current ratings and acceptable wire gauge.
The recommended type of filament is Prusament PETG V0 (or similar) as it is flame retardant and UL certified.
If you have any concerns regarding safety or legality, please don't print this.
Description
An alternative to an electrical socket, for use for example under a desk or by the TV where you need to power a number of devices that you don't need to move around or unplug. This essentially replaces a 4-socket power strip but requires cutting off the plug at the end of the cable.
Will fit WAGO 221-415, 221-425 and 221-485.
The box has 2 screw holes for attaching it to a surface, you can also use strong double sided adhesive if you don't want to make any holes.
Cable compatibility
The cable clamps are designed for use with cables that are Ø5 to 8mm. Using thinner cables may result in the cables not being secured properly. Make sure you tighten the clamps properly.
File description
You will need to print one of each file, except for the EWBv2-OutClamp.stl where 4 is required.
EWBv2-ClampTest.stl is only if you want to test the strength of the clamps without printing the entire thing, requires 2x M3 screw 15mm or more and 1x M3 hex nut.
Parts required and assembly
Use the length guides on the inside of the lid (measured from the lid edge) to cut the input wires to the right length.
Strip the cable itself to the length of the earth/ground wire. The numbers indicate the correct length in mm.
For the outgoing wires it is recommended to make the earth/ground wire longer than the other two so it would be the last one to let go, similar to how I did in the one pictured.
3x WAGO 221-4X5. These will work with 12-24 AWG (0.08-2.5 mm²) wire, both solid and stranded, and are rated at up to 400V / 32A. These are sold in boxes of 25 for ~20€ or can sometimes be found as single units for around 1.50€/each.
11x M3 counter-sunk screws, 15 or 16mm is ideal though other screw lengths may work.
7x M3 hex nuts. 5 of these are inserted during the print, the last 2 are inserted before the ConnectorClamp is mounted.
2x screws for attaching the box to a surface, up to 4mm in diameter. Not required if adhesive is used.
Print settings
Ideally see 3MF file for details or use this file if applicable.
Print as shown on the slicer image, with supports only required for a small part of the Box.
I printed this in Prusament PETG V0 with a 0.60mm nozzle, 0.30mm layer height, 3 walls, 100% infill for both types of clamp, 5% rectilinear infill for the box and 0% infill for the rest.
Pause the print at 7.70mm to insert 4 hex nuts for the output cable clamps and at 18.50mm to insert a single hex nut for the lid. These numbers assume 0.30mm layer height.
STEP file
Includes STEP file if you want to make any modifications.
Problems or feedback?
If you have any problems with the design, some feedback or any questions please don't hesitate to contact me. But please note that if what you want is really a different model, and not a slightly modified/improved one, then please look into designing one yourself.
