Blast-OFF!

UNTESED AS OF THIS POSTING - build and fly at your own risk!  I will be updating this model as flight tests give me feedback on any needed changes.

The swatter fins swing down into a straight launch position and lock into latch points on the motor assembly.

When Blast-OFF!  reaches apogee, the motor assembly ejects from the main airframe.  This releases the swat fins and they spread out to use helicopter recovery for the airframe.  The motor assembly recovers under a 12" chute.

Extra parts needed

(early rev of the label. A better one is coming)

The Swat Fins

The fins require 'special' slicer settings so that only the infill gets printed, this gives you the symmetrical fly swatter look.   I've included project files prepared in PrusaSlicer.

Layer Height: 0.2 mm

Infill = 15%
- Pattern = Honeycomb
- Length of the infill anchor = 2 mm
- Maximum Length of the infill anchor = 12 mm

Layers and Perimeters
Perimeters =  8
Horizontal Shells: Solid Layers:  Top = 0, Bottom = 0

The green box defines a region on the swatter that has 100% Infill.

The Swat Fin Hinges

Print the pin flat for strength.  the pivot point requires supports. all parts should be printed 'solid'

The assembly slides into the airframe and fits flush against the body so you can put two 'pins' made of filament scraps.

Motor Assembly

As mentioned earlier, this assembly is designed to eject from the rocket, releasing the swat fins.  You could probably tumble recover this part but a small 12" parachute should fit easily in the body of the airframe and give the motor assembly an softer landing.  The BT-20 tube should be glued to the end cap, if you want you could also put a shorter BT-20 liner in the end cap to further insulate the plastic from the motor heat.
