Description

These are magnetic mounts, flanges, and ports for standard flexible ducts. I live in an apartment and wanted a way to pipe my soldering fumes out through the window, but didn't want to leave it up all the time.

Each component fits 12x 6x3mm magnets. Tolerances on the magnet slots are reasonably tight, but the magnets are intended to be glued in. I have had success with silicon adhesive and CA glue. Each slot has a through-hole to allow excess glue to flow out of while keeping the surface of the magnet flush or just below the components. The holes also allow you to remove the magnets with a small tool.

I have included 3 types of components:

  • Duct flange: designed to seat into the flexible duct itself and should be secured with a duct clamp
  • Duct surface mount: designed to be glued to (or integrated into) your design and interfaced with the duct flange
  • Duct window mount: designed to be wedged into an open window and interfaced with the duct flange.

When inserting the magnets, I recommend using a piece of scrap plastic and some pliers to set them as far into the piece as possible. For the mounts, just press the pliers on the backside. For the flange, the other tooth of the pliers can fit into the glue weep holes. I have pictures of this process attached.

No supports required! Just let your slicer auto-orient them. I recommend 30% gyroid infill, 0.2mm layer height, and I used an 0.4mm nozzle.

The window mount is 1.15" thick on the edges, and 9" wide so it requires a rather large print bed. It prints fine on my P1S but if you do multi-color you may need to move the purge tower to the center of the plate, or just don't use one.  I added the arrows on the corner to add a little skin strength and cosmetic pizazz, but I uploaded a variant without them too.

I originally printed these in PLA and left them in my car and they warped. I re-printed in clear and white PETG just because I wanted to use it up. Any material should be fine.

If you have needs for other dimensions of magnets or duct, please let me know and I would be happy to make more variants of the model. I have also attached the Fusion F3D file.
