Description
Headphone design based around the Peerless Tymphony 50mm driver.
The goal of this project was to design a headphone that hit close to my preferences and that are as cheap as possible to build, meaning no expensive Dekoni pads or tuning foam kits.
The size of the cups was scaled so that they would fit the wonderful Capra Audio headband and Satyr3 yokes.
BOM:
Drivers - Peerless 50mm
Pads - Aliexpress £5 Flannel/fabric Audeze LCD style pads
Cable Connectors - PJ392 3.5mm or 3.5mm panel mount
Screws - M3 FHCS 8 and 10mm
Threaded Inserts - M3 Heat Set
Tuning Material - 1.5mm(1-2mm) 30% wool blend felt and 3mm Polyester Craft felt
Instructions:
- The blocked-out portion of the driver's grill is to be towards the front.
- Cut two rings from the 3mm Felt, one ring to fit the outer ring of the cup, the second ring is to fit behind the driver. The ring behind the driver wants to be cut out so that it fits around the metal central disk of the driver and only covers the outer ring.
- Cut the 1.5mm felt to fit inside the ear pads(The 3mm can be used instead, it rolls off the treble slightly more, but it isn't as soft for comfort)
The Measurements provided are from a custom rig and so arent comparable to anything else other than the measurements given, as such, I've provided comparisons with other headphones to be used as a known reference.
