Guồng nước

One day I promised my boys to make a water wheel. First attempt using odd wooden trimmings and nails was not a success. So I ordered Průša MINI+, skimmed through OpenSCAD cheatsheet and created my first model.

Printed in PETG Signal White for better durability when exposed to sun, water and dirt. On attached photos you can see it after 3 seasons of everyday use on a small stream near the house. Not exactly white anymore, but nothing is broken.

Printing

• 4x left side
• 4x right side
• 16x blade
• 1x hub

Model is sized to fit Prusa MINI bed. Wheel diameter after assembly is 32cm. XL owners can print all 4 pieces for one side in one go. Or scale everything up to 200% and create a bigger one for bigger fun. When scaling, don't forget to scale Z axis too or risk ending with elliptical holes for side pieces assembly (good luck finding screws to fit them :-)

Assembly

• connect 4 left side pieces together with 4 screws
• insert blades into assembled left side and screw them (16x) in place
• insert the central hub and attach it with 4 screws
• connect 4 right side pieces together with 4 screws
• carefully insert assembled right side into blade groves and attach to every blade with a screw (16x)
• attach the right side spokes to central hub with 4 screws
• find a stream, place the wheel into it, enjoy

There are extra holes on each side of the wheel, in the center and around the circumference. They are meant for attachment of accessory parts - axle with bearings, sprocket wheels to drive some machinery etc. Unfortunately, I've not designed any so far. Feel free to design and print your own, i'll be glad to see it.
