Description
This case puts the functionality of a Push To Talk radio, mesh networking and map overlay/Situational Awareness tools in one platform. The use case is for hunting with rifles where there may be more than one group in a single area. Keeping situational awareness and the ability to pass info on animal sightings makes the whole trip safe and more efficient.
The idea came from the T-deck and as I started to design the case I realized I could put more and more into the case. It is printed in a carbon fiber/nylon filament on a makerforged printer and thus may not be available to everyone, I was going to test some TPU but the makerforged was a better choice. I did test prints in PLA to begin with and it works as long as you only intend to put in the tablet into the case once. It is not easy to get out…
The tablet can support the Meshtastic android software from the playstore and ATAK can be downloaded from an APK (not supported in playstore). I also have a range of other apps like ballistic apps and first aid related for information applications installed. This allows my device to work 100% offline without need for networks. the GARMIN explorer app is also installable so a GARMIN INREACH will also be able to come into play as a standalone device.
The PTT radio component is designed to be operated from the device, but the side pins are the primary means of mic PTT. the radio itself is a Jianpai G63 that can be found on eBay for about $50 so don't expect to get what you pay for. I needed to strip the radio down to the chassis, desolder the PCB buttons on the side and remote the board. the battery was also stripped and remoted. The mic rubber protector was then removed.
The Meshtastic board is the starter kit from WISBLOCK with the GNSS addition.
I know I know I could have put external antenna options and internal cabling fixes, but it wasn't worth the effort for something I designed primarily for myself. Feel free to edit the software or suggest any changes. The max intended range for my network is approximately 3km with the mesh so i'm not concerned about range.
there is also a standalone Galaxy S10 case with just the Meshtastic board, it will be uploaded in the future. I will also be putting up just the bases so if you have a bit of understanding into how to merge STL files you can easily add it to any case or structure.
I did my designs in Sketchup so feel free to edit them if you so desire.
