While self isolating I decided to make a better filament spool solution for the Prusa Mini using only stuff I had lying around. The problem was that I had a spool with uneven flanges that would always ride off of the stock spool holder's rollers. I tried supergluing a rod into some 2x4 first but that didn't work well at all, so on the off chance that someone is having the same thoughts as me I hope I can save you some trial and error with this :)
This axle can mount to anything that you can put screws into and will hold 1kg spools no problem. The screw holes are designed for 6G timber screws but any screw that has a shaft diameter (excl. thread) of 2mm should work.
I printed mine at 0.3 layers because it's a structural part and I don't really care what it looks like too much, but smaller should work too. I'm not sure the model exported with the right orientation, but it's intended to be printed flat side on the bed (it orients correctly by default in eSlicer for me).
In my example I used it with a scrap piece of 2x4 and an old chopping board. Doesn't look flash but works great!
