Drill Press Handle Adapter

The table crank handle for my drill press was broken. I could have easily bought a replacement, but I was not too fond of that handle style; I wanted a round one.

So I found this crank handle, but the smallest shank size I could find was ¾". Using the three screws provided meant you definitely could get it attached and functional, but getting it nice and perpendicular wasn't as easy. So, I created this adapter shim that solved the problem and made the handle feel very solid.

Install

1. Install the adapter into the handle first.
2. Install one grub screw in the opening that lines up with the flat section of the shaft, but only screw it in enough to keep the adapter oriented correctly.
3. Install it on the shaft. Gentle tapping may be necessary to get it fully seated.
4. Install the remaining grub screws.
5. Tighten the one screw that makes contact with the shaft fully.
6. Tighten the remaining screws just so that they're snug; you don't want to crack the plastic.
