Rain gauges need something to prevent birds from perching like metal prongs around the top, but some designs are not always effective. A filter can help prevent their droppings and other small wind-blown debris from getting inside the unit, which otherwise is hard to clean.

This part replaces the metal rain gauge coil that comes with an Ambient WS-5000 rain gauge, which I lost when it launched into the grass. This printed version is shown upside down and it clips into the hole at the bottom of the gauge funnel.

I printed with PLA, but may change it down the road to PETG for withstanding the weather better. I used a .20 mm layer height and .60 mm nozzle for a quick 9 minute print. This needs supports for the clip. The support is very tiny and I had to cut it out with a small pair of diagonal cutters.
