Description

Overall assembled dimensions (mm): 260 W x 230 D x 168 H

All parts are rather large and filament hungry. They are thinned out to use less material. You'll end up needing about ~¾ of a 1KG spool for a full crate.

STLs are not saved with the best print orientations. If you want to achieve a similar look to what I have printed, there is going to be a significant amount of bridging on your second layer. To do this, print with the outside face down (the wood grain). Make sure your bridge speeds are low enough. You may have to adjust your bridge infill direction. I had to adjust it in Orca slicer to get it to bridge along the short length. Although bridging the other way helps create a more consistent wood grain look, depending on your filament. There are sacrificial bridges on the front and side models to remove the need for supports on the counterbores.

Note: The label and engine features are not in this model! The images are just there to demonstrate the box. I removed the label due to the intended holding design not working well. A dab of glue or two way tape will do the job much better.

The printed fasteners may or may not work out well for you. Out of all the threads, I had some that threaded and held, and some others that continued to spin while barely holding. I tried tightening the tolerances and it was too tight/sheared the fasteners, so I went back to what I had. A PH3 phillips fits beautifully in the screw heads.

Step files of everything are included if you wish to modify the tolerances or add features to hold other things in the crate.

Backstory: I had printed a functional motor assembly and wanted to make a crate to have a “crate engine” theme going as a gift, so I found a free wood texture and used that on the faces to get a wood look going. The crate was modeled to fit around the engine with a little bit of room to play, and I modified it a bit afterwards to hold the engine in place.
