Description
This is a set of 3 retention clips which attach to the main piece of a 2-piece Shakespeare Micro Series "Light" Action fishing rod 5' 6" in length. This rod is popular for ultralight trout fishing. They do fit some of my other rods, you'll just need to figure out where to install them for correct sizing.
The clips are designed to stay in place while fishing and are lightweight and low profile to not interfere with the fishing line or your casting. When the rod is broken down into its two pieces, these clips secure the delicate tip, the center and an optional third piece near the handle to secure the two pieces of the rod for safe storage and transport. I designed this to keep the rod sections together to stop getting bumped around and separated in my trunk or mixed up with the wrong rod.
The handle is a separate STL and I consider it optional because even with the 2 small clips the holding strength is good enough for most situations. The handle is great for adding further stability.
Recommend to print in PETG as the slight flexibility aids in snapping the rod in and out of the clips.
I have printed the smaller clips at 100% infill and the larger handle clip at 50%. I used .10mm layer height and these parts still print in about 5-10 minutes on an MK4S (if you include the additional clip for the handle) and uses < 1.5g of plastic in total.
Middle and Tip Clips:
Middle clip: On the main rod section, attaches just between the hook holder and the top of the cork handle, where the rod flares out.
Top clip: On the main rod section, attaches just above the first large line guide/loop.
Handle Clip:
Designed to fit just below half-way down the length of the cork handle. Here it stays out of the way when casting.
Attaching the upper rod section:
Line up the bottoms of each rod section and gently press the upper rod into the clip, ensuring a good fit and no damage to your rod.
Updates:
v2: Increased the amount of retention clip that goes around the lower and middle sections so it stays in place better when removing the upper rod section.
