Build Guide

Disclaimer: Open beta v0.1, technically not full release

Strix is a brushless foam dart flywheel blaster expressly designed for use in competitive Nerf. Though spiritually related to the Gryphon, Strix is a purpose-built "race blaster" that emphasizes:

  • Ergonomics, and minimalist, lightweight handling: Lightest configurations at 700-800g with battery installed. Ambidextrous button mag release attached to a pivot for a smoother feel. Minimal height-over-bore.

  • Snappy trigger feel: Especially for the manual trigger option. A short 8.25mm trigger pull with an aggressive 4:1 ratio, 33mm throw, along with a long but reasonably stiff return spring for a relatively flat force curve.

  • Rigid and well-constrained flywheel cage: Beefy 24mm distance between top of cage and center of bore to minimize flex. Feed guide and flywheel cage are the same part, along with tight side-to-side feed constraint.

  • Support for any muzzle device for any wheel crush with toolless swap: the bore insert is completely uniform from the wheels onward with integrated groove/gap fillers. No draggy seam between wheels and device like a Protean-styled insert. Integrated fillers means no cage reprints needed when swapping wheels that have a different profile and more or less crush.

These features don't necessarily make a huge difference over all the other blasters that share the same set of internals—2207s and Hy-Con wheel geo—but they are nice.

Currently in open beta. More features, options, and similar will be developed, but the baseline fileset is fully functional and has been playtested heavily by myself in casual play, competitive scrimmages, and large-event competitive tournaments.

Note: The Flashhobby Arthur 2207 cage and flywheels are untested, though the dimensions were referenced from the equivalent Spirit cage.
