Description

I've been using my TrimUI Brick GripCase for several months, and after all that time, I decided to slightly update my design to offer some quality of life changes:

Changed the orientation of the Brick when using “case mode” so you can see the color of the Power LED when charging.  My original intent was to protect the power button when using as a travel case, but it's very difficult to accidentally press the power button long enough to turn the Brick on, and it's nice to have it exposed so you can see the LED color when charging.

There are now two lanyard attachment points, on both sides of the gripcase.  Now you have the option of putting a lanyard on whatever side you want.

Added a hole to allow charging of the Brick when being used in “grip mode”.  I didn't think it would be necessary, but not being able to charge the Brick while using the grip functionality is more of an annoyance than I expected.  This change means you will need to use two small pieces of filament for the hinge instead of just one, but the minor extra hassle is well worth it, I think.

Changed the geometry of one of the closing latches.  I encountered a bizarre problem with my design, after a month or so of use, one of the snap-latches would suddenly become very difficult to open, it was always the latch near the top of the Brick.  After thinking about this problem for a while, I believe it's caused by a mixture of that side of the GripCase being thicker therefore less flexible, and the heat from the backplate of the Brick slowly warping the PLA over time.  I believe the geometry changes I made will correct this problem - if you've encountered this issue with the “v1” design please post a comment letting me know, I'd like to get more data on this if I can!

Simplified the front art.  I decided it was too busy.

For a basic version of the gripcase with blank surfaces, print trimuibrick_gripcase_top and trimuibrick_gripcase_bottom.  I added some artistic designs to make it a little more visually interesting, if you have a multi-color printer, you can download the _designsmulticolor files.  If you don't have a multi-color printer but still want the outside designs, use the _designs files.  Feel free to mix and match!

Print a top and bottom piece, no supports are necessary but I highly recommend printing with a brim to prevent warping of the case.  Use two lengths of 1.75mm diameter filament through the hinge to join the parts together.  I made the hinge hole on the loose side, and used a dab of hot glue on each end to hold the filament pieces in place.  STL files are just to demonstrate the final assembly, please download and print the STEP files.

My design makes use of the foam cover that the TrimUI Brick comes packaged with, if you don't have this foam piece, my design will not be good for you, your Brick will NOT fit well in either case mode or grip mode!

As with my previous design, I want to reserve some space to shout out the inspiration for my design, which are the gripcases that @JoshuaC created for the Miyoo Mini v4 and the Miyoo Mini Plus.  I own a TrimUI Brick, a Miyoo Mini v4 and a Miyoo Mini Plus, and if you are thinking about getting one of these devices, my easy easy easy recommendation is to get the Miyoo MIni Plus, install OnionOS on it, search Internet Archive for the “Done Set 3” and install that, then print out JoshuaC's gripcase for the MM+.  The TrimUI Brick is a powerful device, but it doesn't have anywhere near the community support or software maturity that the MM+ has, and with the setup I described, you'll have a fully configured, scraped, ready-to-go device after just a few hours of setup.

And again, if you are looking for a gripcase for your TrimUI Brick that is a little more premium than my design, I highly recommend these two purchaseable options:
