What is Computer Junkyard

Computer Junkyard is a board game inspired by real-world computer parts, created by Dream Egg Games.

About This Insert

This box insert replaces the original plastic insert that is included with the game, giving you more organisation for the game components.  All of the component cards are stored in segments of the insert, with custom-sized segments for the timer, dice, bug spray and locks.  The insert also features a removable coin bank that can be used during play.

There are a few very small changes in the files compared to the photo, as I found a few things missing after the photographed version.  These are:

  • Slight size change to the notepad and reference card storage area under the price card

  • Added finger spaces to make removal of notepad, reference cards and price card easier

  • Added finger space between Lightning and Peripheral segments

There are files available for 3 different sizes of printers:

  • Single Piece - 300 x 300mm print bed or larger

  • Standard Split - 250 x 220mm print bed

  • Mini Split - 180 x 180mm print bed

The coin tray and motherboard tray are common parts that are the same for all sizes.

Each insert size and the motherboard tray has two versions, a blank and an embossed version.  The blank version has no text on the base of the insert, and the embossed version has text labels for each segment.

The split versions of the files are joined after printing using hidden dovetail joints on the base of each part.  Once the parts are assembled in the box, the gap between pieces should be very difficult to see.

The split files are currently untested as I don't need this version, so any feedback is appreciated!

The version shown in the photos is printed using Prusament Galaxy Silver PLA.

Printing Tips

Using 5% infill (which is strong enough for the purpose of a game box insert), the full insert uses slightly more than 600g of filament.

For all versions of the insert, you will also need a Motherboard Box and a Coin Tray.

The Single Piece version of the files can be printed on printers with a print bed size of 300 x 300mm.  Due to the large square shape of the print, I highly recommend printing this with a brim - on 300 x 300mm printers a 5mm brim can be added.  Even with a brim, some warping on the corners of the print may happen, but it won't be visible once the insert is in the box.

For the Standard Split and Mini Split, supports are needed under the dovetail cutouts for best results.  Without supports, the pieces will not join together as smoothly.  The 3mf files for the standard split and mini split include the painted supports.  A brim is not included as parts are smaller and it would interfere with the joins.  Helper cubes are included in the Standard Split 3mf for the two largest parts instead.
