Description

The ultimate headrest hook.  The headrest clip fits around a headrest post completely and will not fall off while driving or being knocked around.  It attaches easily without having to remove the headrest.  The chain will conform to any seat back.

The chain and hook print in place, you shouldn't need to change the orientation.  I've found it prints very well at 0.2 mm.

I've printed this successfully in ABS and PETG, both of which will hold up to the hot temperatures of a car in the summer.

What's New

I uploaded the original headrest hook a year ago.  Since then my kids have been doing their version of durability testing and have found that the printed hinge pins can snap off.  This redesign uses raw printer filament as the hinge, and as a result is significantly stronger!

Assembly

  • Print twice as many “outer links” as “inner links”.  I recommend 5 inner and 10 outer.
  • Connect two inner links together with two outer links.
    • Pass a length of filament through and snip it off leaving a few millimeters extra on each end.  Don't worry, you'll trim these later.
    • As seen in the photo, hold these parts together with the “assembly clip”.
  • Stand the chain on edge so the two pits on the “outer link” are facing up.
  • Carefully place a single drop of super glue on the filament sticking out of the pit. It should run down and fill in the pit. Repeat for the other pit.
    • note: use the runny super glue, not the gel kind.
  • Carefully flip the chain over and repeat on the other side.
  • Lay the chain back down flat immediately after you've applied the super glue.  This will stop the glue from seeping further down the filament and reaching the inner link.
  • Repeat until the chain is complete.
  • After the chain is complete you may want to wait an hour or so for glue to fully harden.  One it has, you can trim off the excess.

If your headrest can be removed then you can permanently attach the “Headrest Attachment - One Piece”.  Otherwise use “Headrest Attachment - Two Piece - Left” and “Headrest Attachment - Two Piece - Right” for an attachment that can be opened and closed.
