Description
⚠ DISCLAIMERS & LIABILITY
Please read carefully before printing or installing:
-
Printer Safety: Printing onto textile/mosquito net is an advanced technique. If the nozzle catches the fabric, it can damage your printer’s motion system or hot-end. I am not liable for any damage to your hardware.
-
Automotive Modification: Any modification to your vehicle is done at your own risk. This part is not an OEM component. I am not responsible for any mechanical failure, warranty voiding, or consequences resulting from the use of this model.
-
Airflow & Blower Motor: Adding a filter can increase resistance; if it becomes clogged with debris, it may strain the HVAC blower motor.
-
Maintenance: You must check this filter periodically. Depending on your environment, it may clog. It is your responsibility to ensure it remains clear to allow proper ventilation.
Description
The Problem
After six months of ownership, I found a surprising amount of physical debris—leaves, bugs, and fluff—inside my Panda's cabin filter housing. I don’t have a vacuum nozzle narrow enough to clean that tight enclosure effectively, and I want to avoid the risk of hitting or damaging the evaporator while trying to reach in there.
The Solution
This custom-fit pre-filter sits at the main air intake under the scuttle panel. While removing the wiper arms and scuttle panel to reach this area is not trivial, it is a much less awkward space to clean than the interior cabin filter housing. The goal is to catch debris at the entry point so it can be brushed off easily during periodic maintenance.
Technical Details & Printing onto Mesh
I printed this using the "Print onto Fabric" technique with a mosquito net.
-
Mesh: Use a mesh of your choice. Keep in mind it should be made of a temperature resistant material. Ensure it is secured properly during the pause-at-height step.
-
Alternative: You can increase the infill density to create a fully 3D-printed mesh, though I have not tested the airflow for that method.
I printed this out of PETG since it's the most weather resistant material I had around. I don't know how hot that area of the engine could get, but to be on the safe side it might be better to print it out of ASA.
The model I provided is solid all the way through. To achieve the basic mesh structure I relied on the slicer. I set top / bottom layer count to 0 and at least 3 perimeters.
Compatibility
-
Confirmed: Fiat Panda 319 (2024 1.0 Mild Hybrid).
-
Unconfirmed: This may not fit older 319 models or different engine variants. I have been unable to verify the part number for the air intake grill on older versions, so please check your intake dimensions and shape before printing.
