Description
I really like the modular spool rewinder design by Storm Design, but I felt the spool holder with bearings could be improved in a few ways:
-
Thicker/wider threads (mine broke on the first tightening around a spool)
-
Use a Nylon nut rather than the thread locker glue
-
Threads that twist/rotate the standard direction
-
I also included multiple sizes of universal centering cones for the various sizes of spools
Note that you can use my files with all the other parts of Storm Design and even use the same fasteners (35mm and 20mm m3 bolts).
Instructions
Embedding the nut into the spool side:
-
Using the 0.15 Layer profile in Prusa Slicer, pause print at 7.10 (this will pause just before this layer starts). Insert the hex nylon nut and resume. You could be using different settings, just make sure to pause print before you can no longer embed the hex nut!
-
I designed them so that you can embed both the male and female thread at the same time
- There is a quick small test print you can use incase you wanted to test the tolerances with your hardware first. I use tight tolerances so that the hex nut does not spin in the 3d printed part. My M3 nylon hex nuts had a distance between the two sides of 5.4mm and this polygon size is 5.5mm. If these tolerances does not work for some, please comment and I can upload some more tolerances if needed. It has worked on my stock MK4S and Prusa mini.
Happy Printing!
