Description

I added an M.2 ethernet controller to get a second LAN connection on my Minix Z300-0db. I had the ethernet connector board just hanging out loose out in a simple 3d printed box, but I wanted it more permanently mounted to the machine, so I added an enclosure to this fan holder model.

There are two lugs to accommodate a small zip tie to strain relief the ethernet board cable to the enclosure. When I tightened the zip tie, one of the two lugs broke off and it turns out that just one is perfectly adequate. I would suggest tying your cable to one lug or the other, so you have two tries if you break one.

I also pulled a small zip tie snug on the cable on the inside of the Minix PC enclosure to act as a simple strain relief on that side.

This is the 2.5G ethernet card I used(with the 15CM cable): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FM454R4N

Photograph both ends of the cable prior to unplugging it, so you know which way it goes. Also, be very careful unplugging it from the M.2 card. On mine I was trying to be careful and one side popped loose all at once and cracked the plastic on the other end of the connector. It still works fine, but it's definitely challenging to remove the cable evenly enough to avoid damage to the connector.

I was able to carefully fold the connector against the cable and slip it through one of the WiFi antenna holes. One end of the cable was easier to fold than the other, so I suggest trying both if it doesn't easily fit through.

As with the original model, the fan holder fits into the heat sink fins tight enough for a friction fit. No need to remove the case screws to hold it to the machine.
