Description

Introduction

You may find yourself needing to connect a waveshare device with a raspberry pi that has no GPIO header, like my Zero 2 W (as opposed to Zero 2 WH, which has the header). You don't need a full 40-pin header. Just fit the few individual pins required.

Use

Note: this is not a hammer head. The template is completely removed when you're done soldering.

  1. Choose the right template for your e-Paper HAT model and print it. Check out the Compatibility section below for exact model.

  2. Fit individual pins long-side into the template. The apertures have the default depth of 6mm, so if your pins slid in the plastic sheath, press them as deep as they'll go.

  3. Fit the template with pins on your Raspberry Pi and secure it:

    1. With size 2 or size 2.5 screws, on models where the screw holes fit, such as Raspberry Pi Zero

    2. With sticky tape or combination of screw and tape on larger models.

  4. Solder on the pins

  5. Take off the template, connect up your cable and enjoy!

Compatibility

This is primarily intended for the alternative method of connecting the HAT with an 8 to 12-wire cable, as every Waveshare manual mentions. At the time of this writing, the following pin counts match the listed Waveshare e-Paper HATs:

10-Pin

10.85inch e-Paper HAT+ (G), 10.85inch e-Paper HAT+, 13.3inch e-Paper HAT+ (E),

12-pin

2.13inch Touch e-Paper HAT,

5V 8-pin

10.3inch e-Paper HAT (D), 10.3inch e-Paper HAT (G), 10.3inch e-Paper HAT, 13.3inch e-Paper HAT, 6inch e-Paper HAT, 6inch HD e-Paper HAT, 7.8inch e-Paper HAT, 9.7inch e-Paper HAT,

Printing

This not is exactly a single-use model, but how many times are you going to solder on your Pi? PLA is fully OK. Even a 0.4-mm nozzle at 0.2-mm layers leaves nice and crisp apertures for both the metallic pins and the plastic sheaths. No supports are necessary, just make sure you build holes-up.
