Description
Introduction Tired of the same old clamshell pencil cases? The Mechanical Iris Pencil Box is a twist‑open container that brings mechanical flair to something as simple as holding pencils. Load it with your favorite writing tools, give the lid a turn, and the smooth iris mechanism reveals your gear like you’re opening a secret vault.
Details & Benefits This ready‑to‑print, non‑parametric iris box is purpose‑built for pencils and pens, with two fixed lengths:
- 175 mm – fits shorter pencils or slim markers
- 195 mm – holds standard pencils with ease
You can also personalize the lid with any design — initials, patterns, logos, or artwork — for a unique touch.
Other advantages:
- No CAD work required — just pick your size, slice, and print
- A standout upgrade from standard pencil cups or boxes
- Demonstrates smooth mechanical motion in a compact, functional piece
- Great as a gift for students, artists, or anyone who enjoys clever design
Printing & Assembly
- Designed for FDM printers, with no supports required
- Recommended settings: 0.2 mm layer height, 20% infill, PLA or PETG
- Print all components, fit the iris leaves and lid base, secure with five M3 screws for a self‑locking, twist‑to‑open lid
Ready to upgrade your pencil storage? Download the files, print your size, and enjoy the smoothest twist‑lid you’ve ever had on a pencil box.

Assembly
Assembly is straightforward with super easy steps
Step 1
Start off by aligning your leaves and inserting screws through the slider
They should all be aligned in the shut position
Step 2
Align the handle with the 5 screws holes.
Then screw the 5 screws in.
Now the iris mechanism should work
Step 3
Finally glue/press fit the iris mechanism into the box. (Warning: you will not be able to change it if you glue that’s why I recommend the press fit)
