Description
I created this Modular PCB Holder System to hold virtually any Printed Circuit Board (PCB) for soldering, assembly, and repair operations. It features a collection of components that can be mixed and matched to create the PCB Holder System that's just right for you - from a basic system with 1 Base, 2 Sockets, and 2 Vises - all the way up to a workbench-sized system featuring Bases, Blank Bases, Trays, Connectors, Corners, Edges, Sockets, Braces, Clamps, Vises, Spacers, Plugs, and Mount Plugs!
The 3 types of included bases can be connected to one another in any combination and can be held in place with Corners and Edges - which can be secured to your workbench with screws.
There are 3 types of PCB holding devices that accommodate almost any size printed circuit board - all of which can be rotated 360 degrees and 2 that can tilt the PCB at any angle. Spacers can be used to provide more vertical clearance.
Plugs and Mount Plugs can be used to cover unused holes to keep debris from falling in the holes.
Reusable Connectors allow you to change the layout or configuration of your Modular PCB Holder System at any time!
See the attached photos for some examples of possible configurations and details on assembly of the parts.
Here are the components that are included in the Modular PCB Holder System:
--------
Base - 4 x 4 grid of 10mm holes spaced 20mm apart for holding Braces, Clamps, or Vises
Blank Base - same as Base but without holes
Tray - Blank Base with cavity for holding solder, parts, or other small items (optional inserts *coming soon* to provide multiple compartments within a single Tray)
Connector - connects Bases to other Bases (all types), Corners, or Edges
Corner - holds Bases in place at corner with option to secure to workbench with screws
Edge - same as Corner but for straight sections when Bases are connected together
Plug - covers unused holes in Bases to keep debris out of holes
Mount Plug - covers unused mounting holes in Corners or Edges to keep debris out of holes
Brace - insert in hole to hold PCB in place horizontally or at 45 or -45 degree tilt
Clamp - insert in hole to hold PCB in place at any tilt angle
Vise Body - same as Clamp but uses a heat-set M5 threaded insert (up to 10mm deep), an M5 screw (recommend 30 to 40mm long), and a Vise Gripper (see below) to adjust clamping jaw extension
Vise Body Threaded - same as Vise Body but is already threaded for an M5 screw (recommend 30 to 40mm long) - which attaches to a Vise Gripper (see next item) to adjust clamping jaw extension
Vise Gripper - attaches to the end of an M5 screw as part of a Vise to hold onto a PCB (use a small screwdriver to attach the M5 screw to the threaded end of the Vise Gripper after threading the screw through the Vise Body)
Socket - attached to Braces, Clamps, or Vises to allow them to be inserted into holes in Bases
Spacer - extends height of Braces, Clamps, or Vises (with Sockets attached) or provide extra support under your PCB
--------
The provided STL files are intended to be printed in PETG or PLA (or pretty much any other material) and do not require supports. The Clamps and Vise Grippers are print-in-place to provide 360 degree tilting.
PrusaSlicer 3MF files are provided for all parts for generic PETG. G-code files are provided for the Original Prusa MK4. Filenames that start with “x” and a number indicate multiple copies of a part (e.g., a prefix of “x12” indicates 12 copies of the part).
The Modular PCB Holder parts seen in the photos were printed on an Original Prusa MK4 with Sunlu PETG in multiple colors (mostly transparent) using Input Shaper with a 0.4mm nozzle at 0.2mm layer height with a 15%, 25%, or 40% infill and various top and bottom fill patterns.
Almost any top and bottom fill pattern is fine, but you should use an infill for the thin and tall parts that doesn't cross over itself - to help prevent adhesion issues. A good infill is gyroid; for tall and thin parts, grid is not a good option! The Prusa Knowledge Base has an excellent article discussing infill patterns at https://help.prusa3d.com/article/infill-patterns_177130
Please feel free to suggest additional accessories or changes you'd like me to make - or contribute your own additions... The Base holes are 10mm in diameter and 20mm deep, so any attachment should be about 9.7 to 9.8mm in diameter and up to 20mm high. Let me know if you need more details or STEP files as a starting point.
