Description

As a mechanic i am checking customers brakes on a daily basis.  I have used a metal version of this tool for years and I paid $15-$20 for it.  It's a useful way to measure how much a brake pad is worn down and communicate it to the customer.  My only complaints about the original are that over time the paint has worn off a good deal, and there are times when I wish I could have a set of right angled wear gauges so I can check pad thickness when access is more difficult.

Unfortunately, nobody even makes the right angled version of this tool.

Normally the tool from the store only includes 2mm, 3mm, 4mm, 5mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm, and 12mm.  That bugs part of me that hates skipped sizes, so I include them here.  Note that the normally skipped 7mm, 9mm, and 11mm gauges aren't strictly necessary and I've included a long bolt to use with the complete set, and a shorter one to use when skipping 7mm, 9mm, and 11mm.

I haven't included a 1mm because this would probably be too fragile.

The bolt hole has been sized to fit standard 8mm bolts should you prefer to use a steel bolt and nylon lock nut. If you do use the included printable bolt, set it to solid fill,  I went with solid fill and 0.15mm layer height.  It was printed with PLA+ but this proved to be too weak to survive more than two months of regular use.  It's probably best to use abs, or PETG or something

For information on how to use this tool see link below.  I am not in anyway affiliated with lou's car care, but this will have to do for now untill I get my own pictures demonstrating it.

Finally, check out link below for a demonstration brake pad to help communicate better with customers once you have measured the pads.  I'll probably come up with my own much improved version later.
