The Earp
Vaguely inspired by the Colt Buntline, the Earp takes the mechanism of the nerf homemade Samson and uses its genuinely impressive 64cm³ plunger volume to push darts through an up to 10 inch barrel, using a very satisfying break action for reloading.
While this is not the most practical nerf gun, it is long and ridiculous and shoots darts pretty fast, around 135fps with no tuning.
I don't really recommend using a PCAR with it, they reduce the power pretty dramatically. As long as your barrel has a nice clean end, it should be pretty accurate.
This can be built in a few flavors, using either a YEHW style frame, or a Samson style frame, and two barrel aesthetics (Sci-fi or Classic).
Hardware:
You can use a standard YEHW kit, it has everything you need + some extra: https://silverfoxindustries.shop/products/captain-slug-yehw-hardware-kit (I believe silverfox is the only one selling full kits)
Hardware needed (included in YEHW HW kits):
- 22x 4-40 screws (easy to search for)
- 2x dash 131 o-rings (McMaster-Carr, OOD)
- 2x ¼" OD 0.091" ID ¾" long nylon unthreaded spacer (McMaster-Carr)
- 1x 2 ½" k25 spring (McMaster-Carr, SF)
- 1x 2" OD 4" long plunger tube (McMaster-Carr, OOD)
- 1x 3/32" elastic ~6" long (easy to search for)
Extra hardware needed for the Earp:
- 4x Dash 016 o-rings
- 2x M3x10 cylinder head bolts (Sorry I hate working with 4-40 screws)
- 1x M3x20 cylinder head bolt
- 2x Pen springs (no wider than 5mm, compressed length no shorter than 7mm, most generic pen springs work, identical ones preferred but not needed)
- 1x 0.527" ID, 0.625" OD aluminum barrel (between 3" and 10" long, 10" recommended)
I recommend printing with 5 walls and 15% infill for all of the parts unless specified otherwise.
Some parts will need supports.
Assembly:
You will need the back portion of a Samson or my Minimal reprints YEHW conversion. See the files for the specific parts you need.
Start by building the back end like a regular samson, which should be pretty self explanatory, but here is the YEHW build guide as the back portion is very similar: https://captainslug.com/nerf/YEHWAssembly1.pdf

Now put the large o-ring around the Breach Rear.

And screw it in place on the frame with 3 4-40 screws. (make sure there is lube in the plunger tube or around the o-ring)

Now add the seal o-ring. You may need to glue it in place.

Next comes the Breach Front assembly.
Start by putting two Dash 016 o-rings into the hole for the aluminum barrel. The furthest back o-ring might be difficult, just use a screwdriver to finesse it into place. These are important for alignment and sealing purposes.

Next, take the pen springs, the M3x10 bolts, and the two Breach Locks, and attach them inside the Breach Front. Follow this video since it can be a little tricky.
Then push in the Breach Button and secure it with the Release Block (you may need to add tape or glue to the release block, if you glue it ONLY put glue on the underside so it does not glue the button in place)
Attach the Breach Front to the frame with the M3x20 bolt.

Now put the aluminum barrel in, make sure it is seated all the way.

Add an o-ring.

Then put the collet nut on and screw it down tight.
Finally you can put in the cosmetic post on the front, and you're all done.
Check the seal, if it is not sealing then most likely you need to place tape behind the Breach Rear small o-ring until it properly contacts the Breach Front when closed.
Now shoot some darts at stuff!
